A pattern bit or template bit

A pattern bit (or template bit) is a woodworking router bit with a shank-mounted bearing that rides along a template placed on top of the workpiece. Used for creating identical, repeatable shapes, cleaning up dados, or trimming to size, these bits allow the router to cut the material to match the template.
