- Firm, Assertive Sound: These headphones deliver powerful audio, especially in the bass department.
- Good Specification and Feature-Set: Features like noise canceling, LDAC support (for Android users), battery longevity, and fast charging enhance the overall experience.
- Well-Made and Finished: Sony’s build quality ensures durability.
- Poorly Balanced Sound (at Best): The sound profile is overly bass-heavy, lacking subtlety and balance for some users, especially when compared to competing brands with better-tuned audio.
- Short of Subtlety, Insight, and Poise: The headphones fall short of expectations on highly regarded SONY products. Sony WH-ULT900N may not satisfy most audiophiles who are seeking well-tuned, out-of-this-world, nuanced sound.
- Bettered by More Affordable Alternatives to Sony: with consideration to the price, other brands such as JBL, Anker Soundcore, Under Armour, and Beats models easily beat this model and offer better value for money.
Verdict
Sony ULT Wear (WH-ULT900N) headphones cater to a younger, bass-loving audience. The Sony headphones are distinguishable with their forceful, full-bodied sound presentation. It is comfortable to wear for long hours and comes stacked with premium features such as ANC, a direction Microphone, Sony App Support, and even a single detachable 1.2mm cable offering much-needed versatility.
However, these headphones fall short of expectations for most audiophiles going by their performance. Its audio lacks subtlety, nuance, and balance. The Bass-boosted profiles sound ridiculously overbearing. Easily, these otherwise beautiful, well-designed headphones get beaten by less costly, alternative models from competing brands.
It seems Sony aimed for big sound and plenty of fancy features at a modest price. This was at the expense of Sony’s signature refinement for excessive bass. Thus, the disappointment with the sound output is understandable. Nevertheless, it is still a great headphone, especially if you are a Sony brand loyalist and are after a bass-heavy experience for a modest price.
